David Magee is an artist with a unique eye when he looks at that most photographed of images - the coastline.
His perspective makes us reassess the nature of well, nature.
It’s an elemental journey that takes us along the coastline of his youth, South West Ireland. Each image has a wonderful sense of calm and tranquility, defying the reality of what is a wonderfully wild and windswept region.
By employing a fresh approach to composition, he creates a kind of portraiture for the these (on the surface) ordinary rock forms. Deceptively simple, these images have been crafted from living rock but rarely have the basic elements of a coastline looked so extraordinary.
If one of the functions (and joys) of art is to make us look at the ordinary again, then these stunning images achieve that wonderfully.
